Kenneth Mac Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home - Farmington on Jan. 26, 2026.
Kenneth John Mac of Ann Arbor, Michigan (previously Farmington Hills) passed away on January 24, 2026, at age 62. His lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer, which he faced with grace and courage, ended at home, surrounded by family.

Ken was born on June 3, 1963, to parents John and Annette Mac and was a lifelong, proud metro Detroiter, growing up in Redford, Detroit, and Livonia. He later settled in Farmington Hills, where he raised his family. He attended Livonia Bentley High School (1981) and the University of Michigan–Dearborn (1985), where he also played college hockey, and later earned his MBA from Wayne State University (1992).

Ken had a highly successful forty-year career and became a respected executive leader of business units and teams in the automotive and financial services industries. He had a passion for mentorship that was apparent in both his professional and personal life, highlighted by mentoring business school students at his alma mater.

Ken is remembered as a dynamic, fun, and altruistic person with a deep desire to make the world a better place. He carried himself with integrity and left a lasting impact on his family, friends, and community. He was a lover of music across a wide variety of genres and enjoyed sharing this passion with his loved ones, earning himself the coveted family title "Mayor of Musicville." He enjoyed playing hockey and tennis and cheering on University of Michigan teams. He also shared his talents as a long-time youth hockey coach. A dedicated supporter of his kids' extracurricular activities, he made it a priority to never miss a performance or competition.

Ken frequently volunteered and supported various charitable causes in southeast Michigan, including working with his church's food drive for many years. He was also civic-minded and never afraid to engage in constructive dialogue or peaceful protest to stand up for what he believed in.

Ken is survived by his spouse of 38 years, Annette Primeau-Mac; his son, Ryan Mac (Molly); his daughter, Michelle Mac (James Lin); and his sisters, Kathye Stribrny and Karen Mac-Wallach. He will also be dearly missed by numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Ken and his family kindly request that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Kenneth J. Mac Memorial Scholarship at the University of Michigan-Dearborn College of Business or to Detroit public radio station WDET, noting Ken's name in the "Tell Us Why" section.

A memorial gathering will take place on Friday, February 13, from 3:00-7:00 p.m., with a eulogy at 6:30 p.m., at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home.

Ken's funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 14, at 10:00 a.m. (9:30 a.m. in state), at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23815 Power Rd., Farmington, MI, 48336.

Please keep Ken and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
