March, Kenneth
CAROGA LAKE - Kenneth C. March, 78, of Caroga Lake, formerly of Hudson, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. Ken was born in Hudson, the son of the late Samuel D. and Vivian Carle March. He was raised in the Greenport and Claverack area and graduated from Hudson High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 until 1970 during the Vietnam War aboard the U.S.S. Intrepid.
After his time in the Navy, Ken returned home and worked on his father's produce farm, then began work for J. H. Viebrock Excavating. He then operated his own excavating firms, Earth Excavation, and A.M.M. Excavation, joining the Operating Engineers Union later in his career.
Ken had a passion for the simple pleasures in life. He was an avid outdoorsman. He was arguably happiest when hunting, fishing, and boating and was a Hudson Fish & Game Club member. Ken never sat still and spent his time 'playing in the dirt' building his garden and fighting the deer who loved to feed there. Ken loved his family and was so proud of his grandchildren, their personalities, and their accomplishments. He enjoyed taking pictures of the nature surrounding him and the joy it brought him.
Ken was predeceased by his wife, Lucille March, and his son, Aaron Jason March. He is survived by his beloved partner Joycemary Taggart; his children Miriam T. Dushane (Adam) of Albany and Miranda March of Greenville; his siblings Paul March (Dorothy) of East Greenbush, Diedrich March (Anne) of Watervliet, and Donna Rich (The Late John) of Troy; his grandchildren Kate and Jackson Dushane, Amara and Charlize Thompson, and Alaina, Malia, and Josephine March; and by several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, on Saturday, January 13th, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. A celebration of his life service will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
