Kenneth Franklin Nelson, 92, of Given passed away Monday, March 16, 2026 at Kanawha Place Assisted Living.
Kenny was born August 12, 1933, at Bloomingrose in Boone County a son of the late Sawyer H. and Myrtle A. Nelson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ann (Winter) Nelson as well as 7 brothers and sisters.
Kenny was a 1952 graduate of Sherman High School. Following graduation, he served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War Era. He worked many years for Columbia Gas and would retire alongside his wife in 1988. Kenny was involved with many fraternal organizations and achieved 50 years of memberships in Ripley Masonic Lodge #16 A.F. & A.M., Beni Kedem Shrine and the Scottish Rite. He was also an accomplished baseball player in his younger years and spent time in the minor leagues with the Dodger’s organization. He also enjoyed traveling to NASCAR races or just spending time and enjoying the company of his many friends.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 22nd at Waybright Funeral Home with Pastor Kenneth Coon officiating. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Given. Military Rites will be rendered by the Jackson County Honor Guard and Masonic Rites by Ripley Lodge #16 A.F. & A.M. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Kanawha Hospice and Kanawha Place Assisted Living for their exceptional care and attention shown to Kenny.
