Kenneth “Pete” Lee Short Jr., of Swanzey, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer.
Born to Kenneth “Peewee” Short and Shirley Short, Pete was a lifelong resident of Swanzey. He spent much of his career in sheet metal at various local companies, including Alexander’s and Holden Company. Later, he retired from Southwest Community Services, where he found fulfillment in his work and formed meaningful friendships with the clients he supported.
Pete was truly one of a kind- known for his contagious smile, quick wit, and the stories he could spin for anyone willing to listen. He never met a stranger and was cherished by his many friends. Above all else, Pete was fiercely devoted to and proud of his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years Kelly Short (Buckman); son Kenneth “PJ” Short III and wife Janine of Winchester, NH; daughters Stacey McGilvery of Keene, NH, Sarah Betz and husband Tony of Harmony, NC, and Alexis Black and husband Curtis of Brighton, TN; sons Alexander Short, Jared Wallace, and Ethan Wallace of Swanzey, NH; Ashley Cournoyer; brothers Darren Short of Gilsum, NH and Patrick Short of Swanzey, NH; sister Tonya LeCour of Charlestown, RI; thirteen grandchildren Kaitlin Short, Amber Slanetz, Mia McGilvery, Harper McGilvery, Theodore Betz, Rowan Betz, Cecelia Betz, Parker Betz, Kloe Black, Abby Black, Natalie Black, Charlotte Black, and Jackson Black.
Pete will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
