Oscar Kenneth "Ken" Simpson
Age 89, of McMurray, passed away peacefully on July 5th, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Joyce (Kaylor) Simpson for 63 years. He was the loving father of Margaret Simpson, Kelly Simpson, and Jamie (John) Urbas and was the cherished Pop of Adam (Kala) Urbas and Amber (Robert) Wallace. Ken was the son of the late Floyd and Mildred (Oberdick) Simpson. He had 7 brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother, Louis Simpson. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Evelyn Richards, Lynford Simpson, Sadie Fleckenstein, John Simpson, Dolores Manzini, and Glenn Simpson.
Ken was born and raised in Hill Station and, aside from his service in the U.S. Army in Germany, spent his adult life living with his wife and children in Peter's Township. He worked as a bricklayer, and owned his own brick contracting business for many years. He loved the outdoors, especially going for long walks in the woods around the township. He was an avid gardener and shared the bounty of his labors with his neighbors and friends every summer. He and his brothers enjoyed golfing every weekend, and with the "Old Guys" golf league that he joined after retiring. Ken loved to read and research the genealogy of his family with his sister, Evelyn. He was also a gifted artist and made amazing art pieces using a variety of medium: building castles out of stones he found on his walks, carving apple dolls and creating intricate scenes in which to place them, and coloring elaborate adult coloring pages. He will be greatly missed by all. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Peters Township Public Library https://ptlibrary.org/product/donate/. Family and friends are welcome at Beinhauer's Funeral Home located at 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317, on Tuesday, July 9th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, July 10th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A service, led by Rev. Tom Moore, will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Gardens Cemetery. To add or view tributes please view www.beinhauer.com.
