Kenneth (Ken) Eugene Smith
Kenneth (Ken) Eugene Smith, born to Henry Woodard and Grace Smith on May 9, 1948, peacefully entered eternal rest on January 4, 2026. His sudden departure has left family and friends deeply saddened, yet his spirit and legacy will forever live on.
Ken was genuinely a master of many skills. He graduated from Austin High School in
Knoxville, Tennessee, on June 7, 1968, and pursued further education at the collegiate level, from which he graduated. A proud U.S. Army veteran, Ken served honorably in the Vietnam War, earning numerous distinctions, including:
• National Defense Service Medal
• Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars
• Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal
• Sharpshooter Expert Badge
After his military service, Ken dedicated nearly 20 years to Robert Shaws before retiring. He attended Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, instilling in his children the principle to fear no one but God. Known for his remarkable skills, Ken and his beloved brother Phil could fix anything-from cars to houses-and were always ready to lend a helping hand.
Preceded in death by: Parents: Henry Woodard and Grace Smith. In-laws: Raymond (Anna) Eskridge of Oliver Springs, Tennessee. Siblings: Lonnie (Zeke) Hoskey, Vera (Kenneth) Moore, Eleanor Walker, Margaret Avery, JoAnn Woodard, Lucy Armstrong, Gwen Trundle, Harold Lawrence
He leaves to cherish his memory: His loving wife, Vivian Eskridge Smith. Children: Hershelene (Deveon) Sykes, Anna (William) Thomas, LaSpangela (Derrick) Smith-Titley, LaKita (Quincy) Quarles. Devoted Grandchildren: DeAnte' Smith, Armelia Smith, Ayveon Sykes, Aviyah Thomas. Grandchildren: LaChelsia Beasley, Raven Payne, Damion Dawston, Jaylen Quarles, Devonya Sykes, Anahla Thomas, Ashton Thomas. Siblings: Mary Tate, Ernestine Williams, Phillip Smith, Elizabeth Humphrey, William Freeman, Denise Smith, Marshall Freeman, Norman (Audrey) Eskridge. A multitude of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, great-grandchildren, and friends.
Although Ken's physical presence is no longer with us, his spirit will eternally reside in the hearts of those who cherished him. Ken's existence exemplified love, resilience, and faith. He impacted every individual with his kindness and left a legacy characterized by bravery and commitment. While his body may rest, his spirit continues to illuminate the lives of those he held dear.
Let us commemorate his memory by embodying the same grace, humility, and steadfast faith that he demonstrated daily. We share in your grief while also celebrating the beautiful life Ken led. His steady hands, generous nature, and quiet bravery influenced everyone around him. As you reflect on his laughter, wisdom, and unwavering affection, may you find solace in the knowledge that his legacy endures within your family and among all who were fortunate enough to know him. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. –11:00 a.m., with the Celebration of Life Service to begin at 11:00 a.m., at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where Dr. Jason Moseley is Pastor and Bishop Kevin Perry officiating. The final resting place will be held at the East TN Veterans Cemetery (John Sevier) at 12:30 p.m. Mr. Smith will be given full military honors.
