CPL. Kenneth "Kenny Wayne" Wayne Spencer Sr. was born on December 12, 1952, in High Point, NC to the late Kenneth Sylvester and Elizabeth Johnson Spencer. Kenneth departed this life on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Moses Cone Hospital.

In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by two brothers, Reginald Spencer, and Vardry Spencer; two sisters, Rose Gillespie, and Beverly Byers.

Kenneth attended public schools in High Point, North Carolina. After leaving school, he enlisted and served six years in the United States Marine Corps. Anyone that knew him, knew that he embodied the true spirit of "Semper Fi" his entire life. He was "Always Faithful" to the Corps. After leaving the Corps, he held various jobs but found his true calling as the "cableman" with Time Warner Cablevision, where he would eventually retire in 2009 after working for many, many years.

Kenneth loved sports. He played semi-professional football and coached several Little League teams. He was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed working on cars and riding his motorcycle. He was outgoing and friendly to everyone he met. Sometimes, he likened himself to being "Pretty Boy Floyd." And everyone knew there was never a mirror he didn't love!

He leaves to cherish his memories; his wife, Gwenda Nealy Spencer, of the home; his sister, Inez Currie (George) of High Point; his children: Barry Moore (Chelsea) of High Point, Tina Wilson of High Point, NC, Maria Spencer Karim of Alexandria, VA, PS1 (SW) Ret. Cleopatra Spencer of Jacksonville, FL, Sharron Graham of Bennettsville, SC, Kenneth W. Spencer Jr. of High Point, Darius Keith, Sr. (Sonya) of Burgaw, NC. Two stepsons, Larry Blount of Greensboro, NC and E4, Specialist Alvarez Nealy of Charlotte, NC. Six brothers-in-law, Senior Chief Larry Nealy (Beverly) of Charleston SC, W02 Matthew Nealy, and E4 Specialist Ricky Nealy both of Greensboro, NC, Lee Morris Nealy of Lyons, NY, Staff Sergeant Melvin Covington (Edith) and Michael Covington (Doris). Three sisters-in-law, ES Sheila Morris (E6 Timothy) of Hope Mills NC, Margaret McNair of Fayetteville, NC, and Brenda Powell (Andrew) of Newburgh NY. Sixteen grandchildren; ten step grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will continue to keep him in their hearts forever. His life was well-lived and deeply meaningful to all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 31, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.
