Kenneth Tischner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Givnish Funeral Home - Cinnaminson on Mar. 12, 2026.
Kenneth Francis Tischner, a lifelong resident of Cinnaminson, NJ, passed away on March 9, 2026. Born in Camden, NJ to the late Frank and Marie Tischner, he was 79 years old.

Ken was the beloved husband of Lynne (née Ferguson) Miller for 27 years. He was the loving father of Kimberly Tischner Miller (Mark) and Brian Tischner (Kristen), and the devoted stepfather of Kate Miller Brown (Andrew) and Christopher Miller (Sarah Hoyo). He was a cherished grandfather to Melanie Tischner, Mason Tischner, Jocelyn Tischner, Tricia Miller, Kiley Miller, Dominic Miller, Julia Brown, Charlotte Brown, Elena Agis, Ethan Miller, and Estela Miller.

Ken was the dear brother of Steven Tischner, Jeanne Walters, Linda Marshall, and Nancy Frett, and was predeceased by his siblings Frank Tischner, Gregory Tischner, and Joyce Tischner. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him greatly.

Ken spent much of his life working alongside his family in the painting business. He owned and operated Tischner Painting with his father and later with his son, beginning his career as a teenager and continuing the family trade for decades.

A proud Vietnam War veteran, Ken served in the United States Army and was awarded the Purple Heart for his service.

Outside of work, Ken pursued a lifelong passion for birds and birdwatching. He earned his master's degree in Ornithology, the scientific study of birds, and was working toward his doctorate. In recognition of his dedication and knowledge, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Cornell University.

Birding was more than a hobby for Ken-it was a true calling. Known as one of the top birders in New Jersey, he traveled extensively with his wife Lynne, exploring habitats and observing species across the globe. Ken saw every nesting bird species in the United States-over 700 in total-and throughout his travels documented nearly 4,000 species worldwide. His enthusiasm and expertise made him widely respected in the birding community.

Ken had a curious mind which lead to many hobbies. A lifelong collector of coins, cards, and stamps, he shared his passions with many friends and family. He was also a talented athlete running track, playing and coaching baseball, including trying out for his beloved Phillies.

Whatever he set his mind to, he pursued with dedication, enthusiasm, and was a positive influence on those around him. Above all, Ken was a happy person who truly loved life and the many adventures it brought.
