Kenneth Wayne Unangst, Sr., age 85, of Saint Augustine, Florida, (formerly Easton, Pennsylvania) passed away on March 14, 2025, surrounded by loving family.
Kenneth was born December 28th 1939 in Easton, Pennsylvania, son of Ethel Unangst.
Kenneth graduated from Easton High School in 1958. He was a fierce defensive back on the football team, being presented with the MVP Award his senior year for the Easton P-Burg championship game of 1957. Later in life, he would go on to coach youth football and baseball in Palmer Township.
Kenneth joined the Army in 1958, working for the Army Security Agency, stationed in Fort Bragg, (Fort Liberty) North Carolina and in South Korea. He served until honorably discharged in 1964.
Kenneth married his high school sweetheart Barbara Ann Cuvo on November 12, 1960. Ken and Barbie, his "Bride" as he often called her were married for almost 65 years.
Kenneth started his career as an insurance agent for John Hancock Insurance Company. He went on to work as a clerk for the Lehigh Valley Railroad, eventually working up to a yardmaster for Conrail, primarily moving ore and steel in and out of Bethlehem Steel. He later went on to build a real estate business with his wife Barbara for many years.
Kenneth especially loved photography, traveling, the beach, cooking and eating delicious meals with his wife Barbara, listening to Frank Sinatra, and watching many great movies as he was a serious film buff. His walls were adorned with Norman Rockwell paintings and photographs of his family. His favorite travel destination was Maine. He loved the scenery, the peacefulness, and especially the sailboats.
Kenneth was a follower of Jesus. He loved being involved with his church and attending with his family.
You could often find him in the kitchen wearing his chef coat, with a towel draped over his shoulder working alongside Barbara or in the driveway wearing his tool belt building something with his son Ken, with Frank Sinatra playing in the background, always maintaining a sparkling clean workstation.
He lit up watching his daughter Tracy perform-whether it was singing with her band or on her many voyages as a Cruise Director. Kenneth was a die hard Philadelphia Eagles fan, passing this on to each generation. He was overjoyed to watch their second Superbowl victory this past February with his family.
"Time goes by either way, you might as well be working toward your goals," is one of the many gifts of wisdom that his children and grandchildren carry with them. Family was the most important thing in his life. His greatest focus was always his children, grandchildren and even his nieces and nephews, particularly his nephew Johnny Bisco, who was like a son to him as well. He was a great listener--never rushing anyone. He loved his family mightily and had long lasting friendships he cherished. His easy smile, whistling tunes, and patience and kindness will be missed by all.
Remaining to cherish Kenneth's memory are spouse, Barbara Unangst; children, Tracy Abush (husband Stephen Abush) and Kenneth Unangst (wife Nancy Unangst); grandchildren, Kenneth Unangst, Natalie VanHorn, Elizabeth Unangst, Laura McGurney and Michael Abush; sisters Barbara Rasely of Mechanicsburg, PA and Shirley Terminello of Bluffton, SC, and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceding Kenneth in death is his mother Ethel Unangst.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, Pennsylvania.
St. Johns Family is in charge of arrangements.
