Kenneth Alan Wakeman, "the nicest guy ever" and a faithful Christian and practicing Lutheran, went peacefully from his home to live with his Lord and Savior on Monday, November 3, 2025, at the age of 80.
Born January 22,1945, Ken was the son of the late Robert P. Wakeman and Ruth Kraus Wakeman. Raised in Montclair, New Jersey, Ken went on to graduate from SUNY Binghamton in New York with a degree in psychology. As a young man, Ken became an accomplished equestrian, show jumping and riding at every available opportunity. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam era completing his tour of duty in South Korea.
Ken was the owner of Wakeman Construction and worked meticulously at his craft. He renovated many of his own houses as well to create a beautiful family home. Over the years, Ken's proudest achievement was the renovation of the summer home on Sacandaga Lake with his best friend Wes Hart.
Ken was a welcomed volunteer, helping to build stage sets for the local theater. He was also a kitchen designer for the Home Depot, earning many employee awards. Over the years, Ken could be found creating small treasures and doing projects for, and with his grandchildren and his family.
Ken was the beloved husband of Grace Miller-Wakeman, beloved 'Grampa Ken' to Abigail and Patrick Monahan of Essex, VT, and irreplaceable 'Wingman' for Michael and Wendy Monahan of Essex, VT. Ken was the loving brother of Cindy Bates (Tom) of Reading, MA, Greg Wakeman (Clarissa) of Fredericksburg VA, Doug Wakeman ( Rose) of Cumming, GA, the late Larry Wakeman ( Kim) of Long Eddy, NY, and the late David Wakeman (Rita) of Laguna Woods CA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who adored their "Uncle Kenny."
A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at Christ Lutheran Church, 1300 Augustine Avenue (corner of Brent Street),
Fredericksburg, VA 22401. A reception will follow at 1 p.m. at the Regency North Club House, Clayton Blvd,
Fredericksburg, VA 22407.
