Kent A. Burgener, 92, a long-time resident of Lake Bluff, Illinois passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, with his family by his side in his home of nearly 60 years.
Kent was born on March 31, 1933, in Oak Park, Illinois to John and Myrtle Burgener. He grew up in Hinsdale, Illinois before enrolling at Macalester College in St Paul, Minnesota. During his freshman year he was drafted into the US Army, and was stationed at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska following the end of the Korean War.
While at Macalester, Kent met the love of his life, Mary Loughman on the eve of her 18th birthday. They were married three years later, August 6,1955 and remained happily married for just over 70 years. Together they raised four children.
Kent began his career in finance at the Pillsbury Corporation before accepting a position at American Hospital Supply, retiring in 1986. In his later years it pleased him to know he'd been retired for more years than he'd worked.
Kent and Mary enjoyed traveling the country and the globe. Spending several winters in Noosa Heads, Australia and summers since 1965 at Crystal Lake near Frankfort, Michigan. Crystal Lake remains a cherished focal point for his entire family. Kent also enjoyed playing the piano, getting his private pilot's license and attending his grandchildren's plays, concerts and sporting events. He was immensely proud of all his grandchildren, whom adored "Grampy".
Kent is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Mary, his four children, Alan Burgener, Carol (Jeff)Grossman, Todd Burgener, Paul (Kelly)Burgener, His nine grandchildren, Andrew, Lauren and Jenna Grossman, Riley and Nell Burgener and Hannah (Jamie) Flint, Nora, Kathleen and Molly Burgener and great granddaughter Hailey Flint. He is preceded in death by his parents; his older brother John and his nephew John A (Tony) Burgener.
Consistent with Kent's wishes, no immediate services are planned. Kent will be laid to rest at Crystal Lake Township Cemetery, Frankfort, Michigan. He will be deeply missed and will be remembered fondly by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
