Kent Higginbotham Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 23, 2022.
Erwin "Kent" Higginbotham of Manvel, TX left this world for his Heavenly home on February 23, 2022, having passed away peacefully at home with his loving dog Sweetie by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl E. & Margaret H. Higginbotham and wife Mary Vandale Higginbotham. ` At his request, his ashes will be laid to rest in Faulkenberry Cemetery, Groesbeck, TX with his parents. A graveside memorial service will be held there at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 12, 2022. Kent was born on June 5, 1959, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the second child of four to Carl & Margaret Higginbotham. Surviving siblings (and spouses) are Carla (Bill) Brady of Spring, TX, Wade (Alicebeth) Higginbotham of Spicewood, TX, and Beth (Jimmy) Wisniskie of Spring, TX. He is survived by his love and partner Gloria Heard, precious daughters, Sarah Marie Higginbotham (wife Megan) of Amarillo, TX, and Emily Paige Acosta (husband Fernando) of O'Donnell, TX, stepson Jim Nash of Palestine, TX, four grandchildren, Jillian, Logan, and Allison Acosta and Brady Nash, numerous nieces, nephews, their children, and Gloria's family. Kent had a big heart and loved them all. He spent the bulk of his youth in Haughton, Louisiana then moved to Spring, Texas graduating from Conroe High School in 1977. Kent made his career at Texas Department of Criminal Justice and made rank of Captain before he retired after 20 years. While at TDCJ he was also deputy at Anderson County Sheriff's Department. After retirement from TDCJ, he went to Dawson County Sheriff's Department making Assistant Jail Administrator before retiring from that position and moving to the South Texas area where he went to work in the oil field with his best friend Tom Chaney. Tom and his wife Teresa were like family to him. Kent was a mischievous child and as he grew, loved to push people (especially his mama) to the brink of exasperation just so he could snicker at their reaction. A jokester with a hard exterior and a sharp tongue at times, but sweet and caring with a heart of gold. Reading and history were two of his favorite things. He couldn't pass a historical marker without stopping to read it. His curious nature led him to research many topics. Information he enjoyed sharing with others. In his earlier years he enjoyed hunting and collecting guns. He even played the guitar a bit. His dogs were his babies and constant companions, first Sugar then, after her passing, Sweetie, both were gifts to him from Gloria. In lieu of flowers, you may donate in memory of Kent Higginbotham to Shriner's Hospitals or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Notifications or cards may be sent to Emily Acosta at PO Box 643, O'Donnell, TX 79351.
