It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kent Renfro Merriman, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who left us unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at the age of 72.
As a father, Kent was a guiding light to his children, Clint Merriman and Nikki Merriman Hicks along with their spouses Lindsay Merriman and Michael Hicks. He instilled in them the values of kindness, resilience, and humor. Kent was known for his playful spirit and love of pranks, which brought endless laughter to his family, including his brother Tad Merriman and his sister Lori Merriman Dixon.
He was a proud grandfather to Henley & Hazel Merriman, Gavin & Austin Hicks who brought him immeasurable joy. His love for them was evident in the special moments they shared, filled with stories and laughter that they will carry in their hearts forever.
Kent was devoted to Janice Breazeale, with whom he shared a loving partnership for 21 years, as well as her family.
Kent’s love for his country was unwavering, and he believed strongly in the values that make this nation great. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His spirit and legacy will live on through the countless memories he created and the love he shared.
A celebration of Kent’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM, at Grandview Pavilion and Legacy Trail. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mountain Ways for hurricane Helene relief at www.mtnways.org, reflecting commitment to giving back to the community he loved.
