Kermit Douglas Harper, affectionately known as Doug, was born on September 17, 1947 in Checotah Oklahoma to Columbus and Helen Pope (Sturgeon), passed away at his home in Emory, Texas, on November 12, 2025. A loving husband, devoted father, and doting grandfather, Doug leaves behind a remarkable legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering love for his family.

Doug dedicated much of his professional life as a truck driver for Merchants, a career he cherished and poured his heart into for as long as his family could remember. Before embarking on his journey in the trucking industry, he honored his country by serving in the Navy. It was during his service that he met Jonnie Morgan, the love of his life and his best friend, whom he married on September 12, 1969, in Dallas. Their marriage spanned an incredible 55 years, during which they built a beautiful life together filled with cherished memories.

He was a true family man, known for his kind and loving nature. Doug embraced the role of a grandfather with open arms, engaging in delightful activities with his grandchildren that showcased his playful spirit. One such treasured memory was when he would join his granddaughter in ballet, allowing her to teach him the best techniques to be the perfect ballerina.

Doug was not only dedicated to his family but also enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests. He found joy in hunting, fishing, and archery and was known for his handyman skills, often taking on projects to improve his home and help those around him. His sense of humor and positive outlook on life endeared him to everyone he met, enriching the lives of his loved ones with warmth and laughter. Doug also lived his life full of faith and was a dedicated Christian, he was a long time member of the Church of Christ.

Throughout his life, Doug was proud of the family he created, his children, and especially his grandchildren. His accomplishments were not measured solely by what he achieved in his career, but by the love he fostered within his family and the lasting bonds he built over the years.

He is survived by his faithful and loving wife, Jonnie L. Harper; children, Kory D. Harper, Regina M. Friskes, Ashley M. Harper; sisters, Phillis A. Clay, Jacqualine Brotherton; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Doug is preceded in death by his parents, Columbus A. Pope and Helen Ester Pope and his sisters, Wanda Heath and Netti Faye Man.

As we remember Kermit Douglas Harper, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life characterized by love, laughter, and a proud dedication to family. His presence will be sorely missed, but the memories and values he imparted will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
