Kerry Jo Fain

Kerry Jo (Rudd) Fain, age 42, passed away peacefully surrounded by her beloved family in her Cedar City, Utah home on January 13, 2024. Kerry battled cancer valiantly for four years. She was born December 30, 1981, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Monte and Barbara (Lucier) Rudd.
Kerry grew up with her 8 sisters in West Haven, Utah where she attended Fremont High School, and met the love of her life, Chad Fain. Kerry and Chad were married in 2002 and began a life in Ogden, Utah, where they had their first son, Zack, and daughter, Alyssa. The Fain family relocated to Cedar City, Utah in 2006, and added three more sons to the family, Miles, Luke, and Bo. Kerry loved music, singing, dancing, telling stories, camping, spending time with her family, and being a hockey mom. Many felt the unconditional love that Kerry so graciously gave.
Kerry spent many years involved in the Utah hockey community. In 2011, she founded the non-profit group, Youth Enthusiasts Together for Ice (Y.E.T.I.), where she became a mother figure to countless youth and friends with many within her community. Kerry was an unmatched supporter and advocate of Utah girl's hockey, especially the Lady Grizzlies organization. She served on many boards within Utah Hockey including, High School Hockey Board Southern Utah Trustee, Hockey Disciplinary Board Member, Eligibility Board Member, and Iron Ice, Inc. Secretary.
Kerry was the president of the Southern Utah Yeti, the organization that runs and facilitates the local youth ice sports throughout Southern Utah. She also volunteered her time as a coach, a level 4 USA Hockey certified and Silver Goaltending, and Team Manager and Trustee for the local Southern Utah Independent high school hockey team. Most of her time outside of work was spent with her family, on ice with the youth, traveling for her children's hockey events, or with the teams in the Y.E.T.I organization. She was fortunate enough to volunteer as a manager for our local rinks and oversaw day-to-day operations since 2009. In 2022, Kerry's hard work paid off and her dream of a year-round ice rink facility in Southern Utah, KJ's Ice Barn, came to fruition. Kerry's memory will live on with everyone who will enjoy KJ's Ice Barn.
Kerry is survived by her husband of 27 years, Chad; her son, Zack; her daughter, Alyssa; her sons, Miles; Luke; and Bo; grandson, Preston; her mother, Barbara (Lucier) Rudd; her brother, Steven Brown (Kristie); her sisters, Randi; Vallaree; Amberly (Todd); Riki (Joe); Shari (Scott); Marty (Graham); Hillary; and Gracie. She is preceded in death by her father Monte Rudd; brother-in-law Miles Fain; and her dogs Jane, Autumn, and Akima. She will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives she touched.
A celebration of life in Kerry's honor will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024, at The Barn at Cedar Meadow 1419 W 3000 N, Cedar City, UT 84721 from 6 pm to 10 pm. All are welcome to come in their hockey jersey to share memories of Kerry. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you instead consider donating to Iron Ice, Inc. to Venmo (@Iron-Ice) for a youth sports scholarship fund in Kerry's name or to the family to aid with medical costs to Venmo (@Kerry-Fain).
The Fain Family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all the healthcare workers who helped Kerry in her fight. A special thanks to the nurses and staff at the Cedar City Cancer Center for the loving care, attention, and kindness they showed Kerry.
