U S Army Retired SFC Kevin N. Burgin, age 53, passed away on August 30, 2024 at BSW hospital in Temple TX. He was born in North Tonawanda, NY on September 8, 1970. Kevin graduated from Atlanta High School in Atlanta, TX in 1989 after winning the 3A state track and cross-country meets along with his teammates. He attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA on a full-ride scholarship prior to joining the U S Army in 1991.
SFC Burgin was a brave and dedicated infantry soldier whose tour included wartime service in Iraq. During his military career, Kevin served as a recruiter and drill sergeant and enjoyed participating in several distance races such as the Army Ten Miler. His service honors include the Iraq Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, and numerous other medals, badges, and certificates. SFC Burgin retired in October of 2011 after serving 20 years. After retirement, Kevin worked for the U S Army Corps of Engineers as a project coordinator.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Rhonda Burgin; two daughters, Emily Burgin of Atlanta TX, and Ashton Tolson and husband Christopher of Wiesbaden, Germany; two stepsons, Jacob Everett and fiancée Sierra Armstrong of Temple TX, and Brendon Everett and wife Rebbeca of Temple TX; 2 brothers, Kenneth Burgin and wife Barbara of Yulee, FL, and Keith Burgin of San Antonio, TX; 3 sisters, Katherine Humphries of Atlanta, TX, Theresa Splater and husband John of Bivins, TX, and Karin Gillette and husband Richard of Atlanta, TX; 6 granddaughters, Maya Acevedo, Kayah Burgin, Amilia Vetor, Beth Everett, Nova Everett, and Capri Everett; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Burgin, and his mother, Catherine (Hines) Burgin.
A celebration of life will be held at Canyon Creek Baptist Church in Temple, TX on September 12th at 10:30am followed by the military honors and committal service at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, Kevin's wishes were for a donation to be made in his honor to your local church or to his church, Canyon Creek Baptist Church of Temple, TX.
