Kevin Bruce Field, a wonderfully gifted musician and music teacher, originally from Laingsburg, Michigan, passed away at his home in New York City on November 22, 2024 at the age of 43.
Kevin graduated from Laingsburg High School in 1999. He filled his school days with family, band, dancing, music, drama, and academics. He was a drama king in the best, most beautiful way.
After high school, he went to the University of Michigan and was a proud member of their marching band. He earned a bachelor's degree in vocal music from U of M and went on to get his master's degree from USC in California. He was working on a second master's degree from Berkeley School of Music in NYC. He never missed a chance to see a show and musicals were his favorite.
Kevin had a spark inside him that led him all over the world to perform and teach. Kevin's resume includes Disney, The Barn Theatre, and two tours with 42nd Street among other shows. He was a fine arts teacher in several districts in California and would often come home to teach at summer dance camp in Laingsburg. His students went crazy for his almost tangible energy. They laughed as the sweat poured off of them. They smiled without him reminding them to do it. They talked with Kevin after class to learn about life outside of our small town. Inside each of them grew the possibility, the once tiny chance, that they could follow their dreams and be successful doing it.
Kevin will be deeply missed by his family: mother - Ruth Field, sisters - Mary Sieben and Pam Danckaert, brother-in-law - Thom Danckaert, one nephew - Tyler Sieben, and three nieces - Isabella Danckaert, Audrey Sieben, Anneliese Danckaert, and by his beloved pup - Bark Ruffalo. His many friends and extended family will celebrate his life with each memory of songs sung together at the top of their lungs.
Kevin joins his father Bruce Field in Heaven.
A celebration of Kevin's life will be announced by Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Laingsburg Chapel.

I´ve been thinking of Kevin a lot. He was my dance partner but also a fellow theatre geek, comedian and all around incredible talent.

In college, Kevin came to visit us at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. We were all getting dressed up for a Halloween house party and Kevin went as Horny Potter. He was so outgoing and funny all night and would wave his wand at guys pants and say "Leviosa!" I think most of my times with him always entailed him saying something a little risque or naughty, but that's what made him so fun. Those memories have stuck with me for over 20 years, so I know the jokes were good! Every time we'd see each other we'd sing part of "Welcome to the Jungle"! He always called me "Dolores" with a spanish accent because that was the name of my one-line character in The Full Monty, and we needed to make her Mexican like me. He's one of the few friends who really celebrated that side of me. I know that tonight, on Thanksgiving, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of people who are thinking of him and wishing we could have one last meal with our funny, talented friend.

I lived just down the street from Kevin as a young kid, and even in middle school he would write plays and stories that the neighborhood kids would take part in. He was a gentle spirit.

Kevin Field was the most memorable teacher of my life by far. He was my middle school theater teacher. He was so funny and cared so deeply about his students, he continued to support us when we all moved on to high school and so forth. He is the reason I still am so close with my best friends, whom I met in his class. His impact on so many young lives will live on.
