Kevin Johnson Obituary

On the morning of Thursday, January 26, 2023, Heaven gained another angel. Kevin Frank Johnson passed unexpectedly at the age of 55. He was a resident of Santa Cruz, California for over 40 years. Kevin was born to Frank Johnson and Sharyon Gibbs on October 14, 1967 in San Francisco California. He graduated from Soquel High School in 1985 and went on to attend Cabrillo College. As a student at Cabrillo College, Kevin was an avid member of the theatrical community. His passion for acting was well received by many audiences and his charisma was magnetic. His dedication to entertaining and helping others extended into his career choices. Kevin took great pride in mentoring youth and young adults as a Conflict Resolution Consultant. He spent many years delighting patrons of Shadowbrook restaurant with his culinary expertise. Kevin's zeal for life extended into his musical talents. For several years, he was the lead vocalist of the band, 'Agravengence' and later the band, 'Fiend Master Freak'. He later became the drummer in the band 'Ominium'. At the time of his passing, he was the lead vocalist and bass guitar player of 'Simmer'. He was also in the early stages of forming a band with his younger brother Nicholas and his dear friend Maia in which he was the co-guitarist. Kevin had a natural affinity for lyricism and spent a great deal of his time developing music with his band. Kevin had an unbridled passion for life, a great sense of humor and excellent interpersonal skills which served him well. Despite the intense nature of his music, he was a gentle soul who indulged and pampered his late mother's beloved dogs Duchess and Quasar.Kevin will be missed dearly. He was a beloved son, grandson, brother, uncle and friend to many. He is survived by his sisters, Ioka Black and Shavana Turay, his brother Nicholas Gott Davis and his uncle Bill Davis. He is also survived by his nieces Justine Black, Leila Moore, Alicia Davis, Shaday Turay, Lisa Turay, Sharon Turay, and his nephew Gabriel Black. Kevin was one of my dearest friends in high school. We hung out quite a bit in the decade or so after high school, then sort of lost touch. Whenever we did bump into each other, we picked right back up. Kevin was a real one, genuine, hilarious, talented (on so many levels) and deeply caring. Sending love to Ioka and all the family. We lost a beautiful one.
