Kevin Johnson, 67, of Kalona, passed away Friday, February 14, 2025, at Halcyon House in Washington surrounded by his family. A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Kalona United Methodist Church with Pastor Lisa Crow officiating. The service will be available via Livestream on the Beatty Peterseim Facebook and YouTube pages. He will be cremated following the service and burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2025, from 3 – 7 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established in lieu of flowers for the Kalona Volunteer Fire Department and Compassus Hospice.

 

Kevin Gene Johnson was born October 18, 1957, in Webster City, IA, the son of Gene and Henrietta (Pruismann) Johnson. He graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1976 and from the University of Iowa in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. On August 26, 1978, he was united in marriage to Voncille Anderson at the Kalona United Methodist Church. Kevin worked in insurance sales for 40 years. He was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees, the Kalona Volunteer Fire Department for 36 years, the Kalona Golf Club Board, the Board of Adjustments for the City of Kalona and was co-president of the Kalona Community Club. He was Grand Master of the Richmond Masonic Lodge #96. Kevin was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, golfer, hunter, and fisherman and prided himself on his well-manicured lawn and clean vehicles. He loved to watch and support his kids and grandkids in all their sporting and school activities and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

 

Survivors include his wife Voncille of Kalona; two children: Kendra Johnson (Yancey) of Bulverde, TX, Kyle (Danielle) Johnson of Kalona; three grandchildren: Ava, Faye, and Weston; his father Gene Johnson of Washington; and two siblings: Lori (Dale) Fijalkowski of Vernon Hills, IL, and Kent (Lisa) Johnson of St. Louis, MO; four sisters-in-law: Alana (Duane) Bontrager, Joan Gerot, Marilyn Anderson (Pat), and Carol (Marvin) Bontrager, brother-in-law Dean Anderson all of Kalona, and sister-in-law Teresa Anderson of Marion, IA, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Preceding Kevin in death were his mother Henrietta in 2021, niece Jessica Johnson, father and mother-in-law Ted and Delilah Anderson, and two brothers-in-law Keith Anderson and Dean Gerot.

The family would like to thank the staff of Halcyon House and Compassus Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
