Beulah Morphew

Beulah May Montel Morphew, 98, of Indianapolis IN passed away on February 22, 2018. Beulah was born in the country near Silver Lake, IN on December 31st, 1919 to Frank and Mary Burger Montel. The oldest of 12 children, 8 of whom lived to adulthood. Still living are Elizabeth Morphew of Kokomo IN, Ruth (Jim) Creighton of Alden NY, and Frank (Sondra) Montel of LaOtto IN. Deceased are Edward, Ernest, Marjorie Jane (Morgan), Walter, Charles, Mary Maxine, and 2 infants.Beulah graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1938. She married David Morphew on May 29th, 1938. David preceded her in death after 49 years of marriage in 1987. Beulah had 4 children; Donna (deceased March 30, 2005), Kathleen of Indianapolis IN, Philip (Theresa) of Indianapolis IN, and Roger (Jill) of Greensboro NC. Beulah had 5 grandchildren; Chris Morphew, David (Angie) Stephenson, Amber Stephenson, Louis (Sissy) Morphew, and Amanda (Aaron) Ulm. Beulah had 7 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.Beulah lived most of her life in Kosciusko County IN and Delaware County IN. Additionally, she spent time in Tavares FL, Terre Haute IN, and Indianapolis IN. Beulah spent most of her life as a housewife and mother. She loved to read and taught her children to enjoy reading, and was still reading books until the end. Beulah enjoyed gardening and animals - specifically Shetland Sheepdogs, cats, chickens and geese. She joined the Central Indiana Shetland Sheepdog club in 1970 and held many positions including President, Treasurer and Board Member, and was an honorary lifetime member. Beulah loved sewing, especially quilts and doll clothes. She also enjoyed traveling and could still beat most people at Scrabble.Beulah joined the West Eel River Church of the Brethren at age 14 and was baptized in Silver Lake. She has attended the Church of the Brethren whenever one was available, but also appreciated her faith community at Unity Presbyterian Church in Terre Haute. Most recently, Beulah worshipped at Northview Church of the Brethren in Indianapolis IN.Although Beulah loved peach roses (and hated red ones), she requested in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to either Sheltie Rescue of Central Indiana Inc., PO Box 199046, Indianapolis IN 46219 or Unity Presbyterian Church of Terre Haute, 1207 E. Springhill Dr., Terre Haute IN 47802.Her Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at Northview Church of the Brethren, 5555 E 46th St, Indianapolis, IN 46226.
