It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Kevin Patrick Powers, II, 58, on Friday, December 5, 2025, at his home in Easton, PA. Kevin was a loving and beloved partner, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to a large extended family with 5 siblings and over 70 first cousins in the U.S. and Ireland. His passing ripples out leaving a tremendous hole in many lives.
Kevin met the love of his life, Melissa Quackenbush, a smart-as-a-whip dimpled girl, while at the University of Rochester. Kevin was a member of the university's football team, Air Force ROTC and Sigma Chi fraternity. Melissa and Kevin graduated in 1989 and 1990 respectively, settled in Rochester, NY, moved to Wayne, NJ, then built a gorgeous home in Easton, PA. Over the years they adopted over 20 cats, always having 6-8 fur babies at a time. Their annual Christmas cat photo cards became a family favorite.
Kevin was born in Perth Amboy, NJ, the oldest of six siblings of 3 boys and 3 girls. He grew up happily exploring every inch of the idyllic shores and woods of Budd Lake, NJ. He attended St. Michael's School in Netcong, NJ, Pope John Paul XXIII High School in Sparta, NJ, and graduated from Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) in DeWitt-Syracuse, NY. Kevin began in pee-wee football and became a member of Pope John's State Championship high school team. One of Kevin's greatest highlights was an interception in CBA's playoff game in the Syracuse University Carrier Dome earning All County player in 1986. He finished his football career on the University of Rochester's Division III team and became an avid Buffalo Bills, Syracuse and Notre Dame fan. He enjoyed golfing and fishing.
Kevin was a passionate toy train hobbyist-collector since the Christmas morning he received his first Lionel set at his grandfather's house. Living among Lehigh Valley's steel and train history was his childhood dream come true. And Kevin could repair anything.
Kevin loved his family above all else. He was the epitome of loyalty, dependability and sacrifice. He was a gentle giant with a loving heart and a depth of emotion. Kevin was a big kid playing among his nieces and nephews, teaching games, teasing, and sharing his nostalgia for old cartoons and movies. He celebrated his 50th birthday at a large indoor water park so he could ride the slides with the kids.
Kevin and Melissa shared an abundance of love for their cats, their families, and travel. Some of Kevin and Melissa's happiest times were in Ireland visiting Kevin's grandmother and large extended family, and accompanying his mother Amie on frequent visits home to Co. Leitrim.
Kevin was a financial analyst for 20 years at the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation/MTF Biologics in NJ, and most recently with Astrodyne TDI in Hackettstown, NJ.
He leaves behind his cherished partner of 36 years, Melissa Quackenbush, 7 beloved cats, mother Amie Farrell, father Kevin Powers, sisters Lynn Powers (Rob Anderson), Tara Powers (Jeffrey Anglim) and Kathleen Powers (Jim McCabe), brothers Sean Powers (Heather) and Ruairi Powers (Lili Carvalho), Melissa's mother, Patricia Quackenbush, sister Amanda (Michael) Hart, brothers Garrett (Elizabeth) Quackenbush and Jonathan (Brandi Baxter) Quackenbush, nieces and nephews Sean, Kaitlyn, Kerry, Ava, Nora, Nolan, Conor, Ryan, Anabella, Brandon, Austin, Hayley, Christina, Will, Olivia, Aiden and Emily, many relatives in the USA and Ireland, dear lifelong friends, Rich and Meredith Bodine, and many others.
