Major Erickson Funeral Home & CrematoryKeyona Lynetta Johnson, 48, of Mason City, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, with Pastor Jon Montgomery officiating. Visitation will be open at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Memorials in Keyona's honor may be directed to the family.
Keyona Johnson was born in St. Louis, MO on November 20, 1977 to Kenneth Hall and Yvonne Burnett. Throughout her years from elementary school to high school, Keyona was known to be a student who excelled academically in all subjects. After giving birth to her first born, Japre’ Hall, in 1994, she had to stop her high school education her junior year to provide for her son. Keyona met the love of her life, Dwawn Johnson, at Hickey Middle School in 1989 which their friendship turned into union. The two gave birth to Da’Yona Johnson in 1999, and they solidified their union through marriage on August 18, 2000. In 2007, Keyona graduated from Everest College with her degree in Medical Billing and Coding, and she went back to school in 2012 to obtain her GED. Keyona had high aspirations of becoming a counselor and social worker for children which she attended Columbia College for a short period of time.
During her working years, Keyona worked as a cashier at a local St. Louis grocery store chain called Schnucks as well as her time being a cashier at Family Dollar. In May of 2012, Keyona was diagnosed with lupus which cut her career short. However, she did not let a diagnosis stop her from continuing to live her life. She took pride in being a homemaker and helping out those in need. Whether it was a place to stay, food in their bellies, transportation, or donating clothes, shoes, and furniture, Keyona did not hesitate to extend a helping hand to those who were struggling in their lowest moments. She enjoyed various hobbies such as crafting shirts andscups, finding new jewelry pieces, sneaker collecting, purse collecting. Once Keyona became a grandmother to Ja’Kyrah and Legend, she made sure that all of her moments with her grandchildren where her most memorable.
Keyona is now reunited with her mother, Yvonne, in heaven. She leaves behind her husband: Dwawn Johnson, her children: Japre’ Hall, Dariana Johnson, and Da’Yona Johnson, her grandchildren: Ja’Kyrah Hall and Legend Brown, her father: Kenneth Hall, her stepmother: Semmie Hall, her siblings: Manon Hall, Lauren Greene, Ronnitra Butts, Kelvin Baker, Shawnyae Burnett, and Tonia Dunn, her best friend: Lekeisha Jackson Dixon, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and close friends.
