Kim Velde of Montevideo died on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at her home at the age of 67.
A celebration of life gathering with family will be held from to 2:00 to 4:00PM on Sunday, November 2, 2025 at Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Le Mar Ranch Equine Center.
Kim Velde, born in Montevideo, MN, to Robert and June (Sunderland) Kurtzbein. She graduated from Montevideo High School in 1976. Her natural caregiving abilities led her to the career path of Certified Nursing Assistant for many years.
Kim had a deep love for horses, particularly Arabian horses, and derived much joy and purpose by caring for the horses she owned. She enjoyed gardening, cooking shows, and exploring all kinds of music. A lifelong reader, Kim was especially fond of crime thrillers. Her family fondly remembers her as an expert in giving hilarious and thoughtful gag gifts that always brought a smile.
Kim is survived by her children: Bess Johnson of Appleton; Birk Hofstad of Montevideo; and Rebecca (Truman) Rice of Duluth. She also leaves behind two cherished grandchildren, Torgen and Tosten; her sister, Heidi (Arlin) Bergo; and her nephew, Elijah (Erin) Bergo, along with extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and June Kurtzbein, and her brothers, Robert and Paul Kurtzbein.
Kim's generosity, sense of humor, and love for her family will be dearly missed by those who knew her.
