KP Simonton Obituary

Published by Dan Scales Funeral Services on Apr. 18, 2013.
KP Simonton entered this life on April 4, 1926, born to his loving parents, Luther and Mary Simonton in Hilly, Louisiana. As one of 5 active young men, KP excelled in sports and developed a passion for baseball, a passion that has been passed down through four generations. KP accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in the days of his youth and in 87 years, he never let go of God's unchanging hand. It was here he met and fell in love with Rosie Lee Burks. The couple was united in Holy Matrimony on June 15, 1947 in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana. The couple moved to Pittsburg in 1955 and raised 4 children: Leroy, Shirley, Ken and Sheila. KP and Rosie have been faithful members of First Baptist Church for more than 55 years where he especially enjoyed the youth Sundays. Always the faithful husband and father, he was diligent to all that God gave him down to the smallest detail. He even insisted on maintaining his own lawns well into his final year. KP worked for 37 years in construction as a cement mason and foreman. Given a quiet moment, he enjoyed few things more than an afternoon Giants game and a few innings with good company. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 67 years, Rosie Simonton; brother, Willie Simonton; niece, Mary Etta Clemmons; 2 sons, Leroy and Ken; 2 daughters, Shirley and Sheila and a host of grand and great- grandchildren.
