A memorial service for Kristine Holmes is set for 1:00 PM, Monday, November 17, 2025, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, KS. Kristine passed away November 1, 2025, in Overland Park, KS.
Kristine was born on September 10, 1949, in Lawrence, Kansas.
Her parents, Richard and Henrietta Holmes, were living at Sunflower Village, where Henrietta was working at the Sunflower Ordinance Plant while Richard was attending pharmacy school at the University of Kansas. The family moved to Scott City, Kansas and later to Plains, Kansas, where Richard bought a pharmacy.
Kristine graduated from Southwestern Heights high school in 1967. She attended the University of Kansas on a scholarship for a while but returned to Plains. She then moved to Larned with the family and worked at Larned State Hospital. She later transferred to Topeka State Hospital until her retirement.
As a teen in Plains, she took piano lessons and became a very accomplished pianist, playing Beethoven, Bach, and other Classical composers. Her intelligence, wit and no-nonsense attitude will be sorely missed.
Memorials may be made to the Cat Association of Topeka and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
