Kristine Ann (Berg) Rasmussen, age 69, of Decorah, Iowa, passed away on December 27, 2025, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family, just as she wanted.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Helms Funeral Home, 306 E Water Street, Decorah, Iowa.

In honor of Kris’s love for her gardens the family asks you wear florals or happy colors. Memorials will be given to WinnMed Hospice in appreciation for their great care and service to Kris and the entire family.

Kris was born on May 3, 1956, in Janesville, WI to Roy and Nancy (Schindler) Berg. She was the sister to four doting brothers, Marty, Steve, Mike, and Tom. As a child Kris was active in track, band, softball, and basketball. She had countless stories about growing up with her brothers, cousins and extended family at her grandparents’ home in Blanchardville, WI.

On October 21, 1977, she met the love of her life, Alan Rasmussen. She informed him that night that she would marry him. One year later, on October 21, 1978, they were wed in Rochester, MN. To this union were born three children, Lisa, Andrew, and Jennifer. They lived on the family dairy farm until 1995. While on the farm Kris enjoyed vegetable gardening and was especially proud of her flower gardens. She also loved baking, sewing and refinishing furniture. She loved donating to various organizations such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Ronald McDonald House, and many local charities. She loved decorating for Christmas, doing puzzles, riding bikes with Andy, antiquing with Al, collecting rocks, and taking many trips back to Janesville to be with family.

Kris worked as an x-ray technician. Her career began in 1977 at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She took some years off to raise her children. Once they were school age she began working at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital, now WinnMed. She put her heart into her work and would make anyone in her care feel comfortable and important. In 2016 she retired from WinnMed after 26 years of service.

In retirement Kris loved spending time with her grandkids, attending games, concerts, meets, and ceremonies. Her greatest joy was playing with her nine grandkids, singing and reading to them, and watching them grow.

Kris was a lifelong Christian. Throughout her life she served God through teaching Sunday School, singing in many choirs and church groups, volunteering in church nurseries, and being part of bible study groups.

Kris is survived by her husband of 47 years, Alan Rasmussen of Decorah IA, children Lisa (Andres) Acevedo of Postville IA, Andy (Pam) Rasmussen of Decorah, and Jennifer (Ryan) Buhr of Cedar Rapids IA, grandchildren Samuel, Delia, and Alex Acevedo, Amelia and Henry Rasmussen, and Jack, Erik, Lily, and Peter Buhr. She is survived by brothers Marty (Donna) Berg, Mike (Jan) Berg, and Tom (Mary Jo) Berg, all of Janesville WI, and Steve (Kip) Berg of Shorewood WI, sisters-in-law Sheila (Tom) Norby of Canton MN, Sharon (Gary) Hanson of Spring Grove MN, and Carol (Gordy) Gaustad of Decorah IA, brothers-in-law Craig (Joan) Rasmussen of Mabel MN, Dean Rasmussen of Decorah IA, many nieces and nephews, and best friend Debbie Eadie of Australia.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Nancy Berg, in-laws Vernon and Lylas Rasmussen, brother Peter Berg, and sister-in-law Joan Whalen.
