It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kurtis D. Chambers, known affectionately as "Smurf". He did, however, prefer to be known as Kurtis "with a K!" He left us on April 10, 2025. Born on September 14, 1968, in Longview WA, Kurtis brought unmatched wit, determination and undying loyalty to those he loved and considered a friend.
Kurtis graduated from North Bend High School in 1987. During his Jr. year he got a job at the South Coast Shopper in layout and Sales and worked there for 3 years. After that he interned to become a carpenter with Holten construction in Kelso, Washington. He worked in construction until 2015. In May of 2016, Kurtis returned to Coos Bay to care for family members and run the businesses.
Kurtis is survived by his mother, Patricia Chambers; sister, Debra Martinez; niece, Felicia Martinez; nephew, Joel Martinez; lifelong best friend, Austin Wilson: dog, Newton as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
A memorial to celebrate Kurtis' life will be held on Friday, April 25, at 1:00 PM at the North Bend Church of Christ.
Although his journey here has come to an end, he enriched many lives of those he touched. It will be hard to forget someone who gave us so much to remember.
Arrangements are under the care of Coos Bay Chapel, 541-267-3131 www.coosbayareafunerals.com

Ill put on music for the 4th of July light show and make sure its synced properly to the radio station. Kurtis, I was blessed to get to see the real you. Thanks for coming to my rescue on several occasions...you know the ones. Your sensitive heart can rest now. Say hi to Dad and take good care of Izzy. I love you always. Your sister (bunny) Deb
