Kyle Reese Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Deer Park Funeral Directors - Deer Park on Jan. 27, 2026.
Kyle Douglas Reese, 67, died peacefully at home in Morgan's Point, Texas, on January 23, 2026, surrounded by loving family and friends. He was born in Houston, Texas, on February 3, 1958, to Robert Glenn and Mary Nell (Farrington) Reese. The family moved to the waterfront in La Porte, Texas, in 1967, where Kyle developed a love of the sea. He left La Porte High School in 1976 to join the US Navy in San Diego, California, where he earned his GED and spent three years on active duty followed by time in the reserves.

Kyle found his soulmate in Glynn Stewart Johnson. Together they enjoyed life, traveled, and developed a passion for old movies. The two opened Stewart X Douglas, an upscale antique store, in Houston, Texas, in 1992. After Glynn's untimely death in 1994, Kyle lived in San Marcos and Canyon Lake, Texas, before permanently settling in Morgan's Point during late 2011. In 2016, he reestablished Stewart X Douglas on historic Main Street in La Porte, where he restored and sold antique lighting fixtures, vintage jewelry, and other treasures.

Kyle grew to be a happy person with a quirky and sometimes cryptic sense of humor. His quick wit was legendary. He was also well known for his storytelling prowess, unique style of living, and masterly gardening ability. Kyle excelled at the New York Times game, Wordle, and enjoyed a longstanding friendly competition with several opponents. He was famously frugal in everyday life but extremely generous in spirit. Kyle moved in to care for his aging mother when she needed help and was always there to assist friends, family, and neighbors. His was a life well lived.

Kyle was preceded in death by his father, Robert Glenn Reese. He is survived by his mother, Mary Nell (Farrington) Reese; brother Richard Glenn Reese and wife Linda; brother William Greer Reese and wife Cathy; sister Renee Grauke and husband LJ; and numerous nephews and nieces. Kyle's ashes will be interred at sea by the US Coast Guard. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday March 21, 2026, 2pm - 4 pm at Morgan's Point Community Center located 1415 E. Main St. La Porte, Texas. Memorial gifts may be made to Houston Hospice.

A toast to Kyle who sailed on

Out on the tide where the old ships roam,
Kyle found offshore a second home,
Salt in his hair, sun on his sleeve,
His crispy humor overriding grieve.

One day he just crashed in my life,
Crackling warm and full of laugh,
Racing in a cart through the Prairie,
A priceless day rich in my memory.

Did Kyle treat each day like a seaside dare,
Skipping stones with reckless flair?
Why did the storm strike at the bow?
Now he´s charting a quieter sea, yow.

I want all the antique lights to glow,
No room for regrets or sorrow,
Let all the bluets and forget-me-nots,
Revive Kyle´s spirit in Morgan´s Point.

I will miss his wit, his steady light,
His knack for making wrongs feel right,
But somewhere past the ocean´s blue,
He´s cracking jokes are sailing through.

I wish our path crossed before.
Camille

Kyle was loved by my office. He was sweet and humorous and known to sneak out the door with multiple chocolate candy bars in his pocket! He will be missed.
