Kyle Ross Taylor, affectionately known as "Pop," passed away peacefully at his residence, surrounded by family, on July 15, 2025. Born on May 30, 1929, in his parents' home in Avery County, NC, Kyle lived a remarkable 96 years filled with love, music, faith, and service to others.
Kyle dedicated over 30 years to a career with Sears, where he excelled as the maintenance manager. His expertise was vast, spanning general handyman skills, plumbing, and electrical work. Pop was a man of deep faith and a steadfast member of the Sunset Avenue Church of God in Asheboro for 70 years, where he also served as an active lay minister.
An avid sportsman, Kyle found joy in fishing, hunting, golf, and snow skiing. His love for music blossomed early, inspired by his mother's church performances. At just 14, Kyle joined his brothers in a hillbilly band and later lent his talents to southern gospel groups such as The Forresters Quartet, Carolinians Quartet, and the Kyle Taylor Singers. A gifted songwriter, his works were recorded by renowned groups like the Blackwood Brothers and JD Sumner and the Stamps Quartet.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife Daisy Marie Bailey Taylor, his parents John and Novella Thompson Taylor, and his 11 siblings, Kyle leaves behind a legacy of love and faith. He is survived by his children Phillip Devone Taylor (Gindy), Teresa Ann Keaton (Michael), and David Lee Taylor (Donna); eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will cherish his memory.
A celebration of Kyle's life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Sunset Avenue Church of God, 900 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC 27203. Visitation will take place at the church from 12:00 to 1:30 PM, with the service following at 2:00 PM. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed by the church's Facebook page and YouTube.
