Kyung (Victoria) Song, 77 of Skokie passed after a brief illness on March 8, 2024. Loving mother of Carolyn (Bill) Pegg and Jim (Erica) Song. Dear grandmother of Christina, Max, Audrey and Drew. Cherished sister of Young Hee Lee.
Victoria was born in the countryside of South Korea. She was the oldest daughter and the apple of her father’s eye. She moved to the United States in 1976.
She started work as a candy striper in a hospital and a nursing assistant at a hospice in Chicago. She discovered beets for the first time at the hospital cafeteria and loved them. She and her husband Jin opened an electronics store, KS Electronics, on Lawrence Avenue in Chicago, an early development of Koreatown. Later she opened a jewelry store on Michigan Avenue and then worked at Kay Jewelers and Cason Pirie Scott jewelry.
Victoria enjoyed being independent and self-sufficient, with an entrepreneurial spirit. She was known as a headstrong, determined individual. In retirement she enjoyed swimming, long walks, and vacationing with her friends. She adored her grandchildren. She made friends throughout her life, and made an impact everywhere she went. She was fastidious and organized, and enjoyed organizing other people’s spaces as well as her own. She was continually productive and on-the-go. She will be missed by all who knew her.
