L. Janet Hanni, 56, passed away peacefully Friday evening, July 18th at Samaritan Medical Center, in Watertown after a long- fought battle against breast cancer.
She was born May 8, 1969, in Willimantic, CT, daughter of Thomas D. and Lillian E. Varga Leffingwell. She graduated from Norwich Technical High School, in Norwich, Connecticut and from SUNY Canton with a degree in civil engineering, where she met her husband.
She married Martin J. Hanni, on June 3, 1995, in Alexandria Bay, NY.
Janet worked for many years for Siemens Industry Inc., based in Syracuse, NY, most recently serving as an Assistant Project Manager.
When Janet wasn’t driving her girls all over the North Country for sports, she enjoyed hiking, kayaking, painting, scrapbooking, reading and getting lunch with friends. Within the most recent years, she was a frequent traveler to Texas to visit her grandson as much as she could.
If you were to ask her family and friends, Janet was the strongest lady anyone has ever met. No matter how she was feeling, she would take each day with a smile on her face and was ready to fight whatever came her away. Many people admired her strength and positive spirit.
Besides her husband Marty, she is survived by two daughters, Kylie (Zach) Perkins, Fort Dix, NJ, and Kate Hanni (Garrett Fields), Dexter, NY, a sister, Carolyn (Mark) Wenger, Marysville, PA, a grandson, Beau Perkins, a niece, Anna Wenger, and a nephew, Isaac Wenger. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Billy Leffingwell.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, July 29th from 5-8 pm at the Costello Funeral Home, Alexandria Bay.
A memorial service will be Wednesday, July 30th at 5 pm at the River Community Church in Clayton. A reception will follow in the church hall.
