Lali "Jo" Powell

Lali Jo Powell, 90, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. She was born on October 10, 1935, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the daughter of L.E and Ionia Mallett.
Jo graduated from Manual Arts Sr. High School in Los Angeles, CA and went on to further her education at UCLA for 2 years. She lived in Texas with her father for a while until moving to Indiana where she married, John Harrison. From that marriage one child was born and John passed away in 1963. In 1965, Jo married James Powell in Battle Creek, MI and the two have spent the remaining years together. Jo was a lifelong member of the St. Philip Catholic Church and was devoted to her faith. Jo enjoyed listening to jazz music and was excellent at playing the piano. She loved making food for catering events and designing her kitchen. Above everything else however, Jo loved those around her. Her husband, children, and friends were the light of her life and she made sure to always show them love.
Jo leaves to cherish her memory with her husband, James Powell; sons, John Harrison, Kevin Powell; grandson, Michael Shelton; great granddaughter, Alexis; special daughter, Ramona White; and special friend, Mary Pat Harter. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.
Funeral services will take place at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service on Monday, November 10, 2025 at 11:00 am.
Interment will follow the service at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
