LaLita Duke Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 14, 2025.
Lalita Yvette Duke

Lalita Yvette Duke (69), affectionately known as Lita, passed away peacefully at her home on November 9, 2025.

Lalita was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Duke; mother, Carrie Mae Tatum; father, Mark Rupert; brother, Andre T. Hill; and sister, Rozell R. Duncan, Ph.D.

Lalita joined Glenville Presbyterian Church at a very young age and was baptized as a visible sign of her covenant with God. As a young girl, she was a regular participant in the church's summer day-camp programs.

After graduating from Glenville High School in 1973, Lalita began her career as a Nursing Assistant at Kaiser Permanente Medical Offices, where she dedicated herself to the well-being of her patients. Her compassion and warmth made a lasting impact on both her colleagues and those under her care.

Later, she cultivated her interest in the beauty industry by completing a licensed cosmetology program.

Lalita was a woman of many interests, each reflecting the depth and diversity of her personality. Lalita enjoyed cooking and occasionally delighting family and friends with her culinary creations.

Her affection for animals was evident in the love she gave the cats and dogs who shared her home and heart. Lalita also adorned her home with collections of charming knick-knacks that reflected her love of life.

Those who had the pleasure of knowing Lalita would have described her as an interesting individual whose presence could light up a room. Her conversations were filled with humor and an infectious enthusiasm for life, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met. Lalita's life was a tapestry of meaningful relationships and cherished moments.

Lalita is survived and fondly remembered by her loving sister, Michelle Taylor-Brooks, (Eric); niece, Yolanda Duncan-Wims, M.D., (Allie); grandnieces, Allison and Alexis Wims; grandnephew, Allie Riley; brother-in-law, David Duncan, Ph.D.; lifelong friend, Judy McElroy; and her sweet, loving dog, Brandi.
