Gregory Lance Harris, known to most as Lance — and nicknamed by his grandparents Bull Moose or Lancelot — was born in Houston, Texas on April 12, 1968, and entered eternity on October 20, 2025. He leaves behind a life full of stories, laughter, and a lot of people who were better for knowing him.

Lance spent much of his life in the auto industry and took pride in being ASE certified. From his early days working in his dad’s shop, his career path took him from working as an auto mechanic to managerial roles in the auto body and collision industry. He had a natural knack for anything mechanical. Even as a kid, he wanted to take things apart just to see how they worked — a trait that followed him all his life.

One of his greatest joys was being “Pepaw” to his grandson, Frankie Flaig IV. Every summer, he took a dedicated week off to hang out with Frankie — splash parks, go-karts, haircuts, and shopping trips — anything to make sure his grandson felt special and loved. Throughout the years he’d pick him up on weekends and spend the days at the arcade, thrift shopping, and fun adventures.

Lance had a big personality and a sharp sense of humor. He loved a good joke, a friendly rivalry (especially when Alabama played his brother-in-law’s Texas A&M), and cooking for family gatherings. He was famous for showing up with beans, shrimp, corn casserole, or dressing — and you never left hungry. He was also someone who would go out of their way to help someone in need. If a friend or family member was having car troubles or needed help moving, or whatever the case may be…he would find a way to lend a hand.

Faith and family were anchors in his life. Lance came to know Jesus as a young boy attending Willow Park Baptist Church, and he treasured taking his mom to church whenever he could, especially on Easter. He also shared her love of the Houston Astros, and he was proud to take her to her first game. Lance is survived by his daughters Brittanie Harris, Hollie Harris, and Ashley Stripling; his siblings Matt Harris and Mitzi Piersol (Drew); his grandson Frankie Flaig IV; and his nephews Matthew, Peyton (Taylor), and Landon. He’s also remembered fondly by his extended family and countless friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur LaVon and Sharon Harris; his brother Rodney Harris; and his niece Kylee Piersol. He is also reunited with his grandparents, and several cherished aunts and uncles on both sides of his family.

Lance was a lot of things — a father, grandfather, brother, friend, cook, mechanic, and storyteller. He made people laugh, fed them well, and left an imprint that will last forever. It’s not good-bye, it’s see ya later. ROLL TIDE!

A memorial service is being planned in the near future in the Houston area and will be updated as soon as information becomes available.
