Lane William Wilson

Lane William Wilson passed away peacefully on October 28, 2024 from lung cancer and dementia. He had his daughters and granddaughter at his side while listening to the Allman Brothers.
Lane was born on October 24, 1952 to Henry and Ruby Wilson. He was the baby of the family and was an Irish twin to his sister, Tonnie, who he adored. He grew up in Magna and graduated from Cyprus High School in 1971. He was proud of playing the trumpet in the high school band. He also bragged that he got kicked out of church seminary permanently for refusing to tuck in his shirt. The hippie in him did not like to conform to the rules.
Shortly after high school he met his future wife, Jo. After living in sin for a short while (gasp) they were married on December 1, 1972. They had five years of fun, times they referred to as B.C. (before children), before welcoming Lindsie in 1976. She was followed by Brooke and Katie. He called them his practically perfect daughters and loved to tell people about them. Lane and Jo later split, but remained friends until she passed away.
Lane worked at the smelter at Kennecott and was a proud union member. He worked there for 38 years and hated the SOBs everyday. (He insisted we include this in his obituary one day.) During a Kennecott shutdown he completed an Associates Degree in Electronics.
Lane was an avid reader and loved silence. He did not like TV. He loved to camp in the red rocks of southern Utah. He told his daughters that the rocks were red because they got sunburned (he was a real smart ass.) He loved rock and roll music. B.C. he and Jo would go to concerts at Lagoon and saw Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. He loved to have a G and T (or 3) and listen to his records LOUDLY while dancing in the living room (so embarrassing for his daughters.) He loved to give people nicknames. You knew that he liked you if you got a nickname. He loved voting for democrats and complaining about republicans. He loved writing letters to the editor with snide comments about anything politics related. He read the paper daily and would cut out comics that related to something in our lives. He'd put our names above the characters and proudly present them with a smirk on his face. He also wrote short stories when he was on his solo camping trips, which he had many. He also loved the Utes and had season tickets to football and basketball for many years.
Lane spent most of his retirement years with his girlfriend, Lynn "Rusty" Bearnson, after reuniting at their 40th high school reunion.
He is survived by his daughters Lindsie (Chad) Walker, Brooke Larsen, Katie (Justin) Bates; grandchildren: Maia and Dane Walker and Wyatt and Scarlett Bates; sister, Tonnie (Mike) Paulos. Lane is preceded in death by Jo; his parents; siblings: Marcia Tuttle, Curtis, Janis,
Steven and Michael Wilson; and his son-in-law, Brian Larsen.
The girls want to send a special thanks to the memory care team at Truewood by Merrill. They provided a happy and caring home for the last year. We also want to thank Canyon Hospice for giving him the best care for the last five months. Maddy and JoAnn are a dream team and we know they gave him so much love and took great care of him. Every person we met from Canyon truly cared for him and we are so grateful for all of you.
A Celebration of Life will be held next summer and will be announced in the future.
