Lanny Joe Roth, 83, of Burlington, and formerly of Yarmouth, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.
He was born Sept. 27, 1942, in Burlington, to John T. and Lillian Arnold Roth. He was married to Corrine Wallman, who passed away on Jan. 2, 2024.
Lanny was a graduate of Burlington High School and the University of Iowa. He was a member of the Army National Guard and worked for many years at the J.I. Case Proving Grounds, designing backhoe and loader implements.
Lanny was a talented artist, designing and painting intricate, colorful Hex signs, many of which he gifted to family and friends. He was a skilled woodcarver, creating ducks, geese, owls, and wooden bowls. His many projects included barn restoration, house remodels, and making various pieces of furniture.
A dedicated conservationist, Lanny planted groves of trees and created terraces to prevent soil erosion. He also excavated many ponds and stocked them with fish. He was a fifty-year member of the Cascade Boating Association.
In his younger years, Lanny enjoyed duck hunting on Big Island with family and friends. He also enjoyed planting fruit orchards and vegetable gardens, canning, freezing, and preserving the produce. He loved animals and rescued many stray dogs and cats. Lanny was a quiet man who enjoyed a quiet, homey life.
Survivors include his granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Lily; his brothers, John (Julie) Roth and William Roth; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; his wife, Corrine; his first wife, Louise; his son, John W. Roth; his daughters, Julia A. Roth and Tia E. Roth Kingsbury; and his brother, Charles Roth.
According to his wishes, his body has been cremated, and there will be no services.
A granite monument for him and his beloved wife, Corrine, is at Trinity Cemetery, rural Mount Union.
