When I was a manager at Cano’s Restaurant in Newport Beach in the early 80’s we decided to close a little early one evening since the bar and dining room were empty at 11:00pm. By 11:30 the remaining staff and I were locking up. Probably one hour earlier than usual.
As I was locking the front doors Mr Cano and his wife drive up in their Rolls Royce and he gets out. I had the lights out and the music off by this time. I yelled at the bartender to get back to the bar and I switched on the lights and music just as Mr Cano was walking up the steps.
He said good evening and did not seem to notice anything was amiss. He and his wife had a cocktail and left.
Some evening memories stick with you forever.

I was a manager at Cano’s restaurant in Newport Beach in 1981-83. Mr Cano would visit every so often and was the most kind and polite of gentlemen. I could see why he was as successful as he was. RIP.
