Larry Case

BAXTER CHAPEL - Larry Case, a beloved member of the Baxter community, passed away suddenly on October 6, 2025, at his home. He was born on January 29, 1959, in Cookeville, Tennessee.  

Larry graduated from Upperman High School – Baxter, as part of the Class of 1977, where he showcased his talents as an athlete, playing both basketball and baseball. His love for sports continued throughout his life as he actively engaged in fishing and golfing. Additionally, Larry committed to nurturing the next generation of athletes, coaching youth baseball and basketball leagues in Baxter. His impact on young lives through sports will be fondly remembered by many.

Larry was a member of the New Home Baptist Church, where he found spiritual fulfillment and community connection. His faith guided his actions, and he was cherished by those who shared his path. He was employed by the Putnam County Parks & Recreation Department, and later at Stovers of Cookeville.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, Joe Case and father-in-law, Mack Shanks.

He is survived by his loving family, including his wife, Myra Shanks Case, wife of 47 years (married July 7, 1978) of Silver Point, Mother & StepFather, Helen "Cricket" Mathis Boyd and Bob Boyd; and his sons, Joseph (Katie Beth) Case of Baxter, Jordan (Ashley) Case of Crossville, and Jared (Jana) Case of Silver Point; his grandchildren, Rylan & Rylee, Judah & Jolee, and Boone & Jara; his brothers & sister, Kevin (Melissa) Case of Cookeville, Kendall Case of Maryville and Jill (Scot) Hendricks of Amelia Island FL and mother-in-law, Euda Kate Shanks of Silver Point, TN; brothers & sisters-in law: Mackie (Lorie) Shanks, Tena (Danny) Simmons, and a host of nieces and nephews. 

Larry's family will forever hold dear the memories of his laughter, love, and unwavering support.

Visitation will be held at Baxter Chapel Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.  A funeral service will follow on the same day at 12:00 Noon, with burial taking place at Smellage Memory Gardens, Silver Point, TN, following the service.

Bro. Tony Crow and Bro. Charlie Wills will officiate. 

Pallbearers will be Joseph Case, Jordan Case, Jared Case, Kevin Case, Kendall Case and Mackie Shanks.

Larry Case leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication to community service, and a passion for sports that will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the many lives he touched throughout his journey.
