Funeral services celebrating the life of Mr. Larry M. Cooper, 84, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, April 27, 2024, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA, with Pastor’s Terry Taylor, Richard Richardson, Jr. and Clay Vance officiating. Interment will follow at St. Paschal Catholic Cemetery in West Monroe, LA. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. Saturday at Mulhearn Funeral Home.
Mr. Cooper was a member of Family Church in West Monroe, LA. From 1958-1977, he began working at Greater Monroe Homes Inc. and became co-owner with O.D. Westbrook. 1977 was also the year that Larry began co-ownership of Cooper Construction with his brother, Billy Cooper. In 1969 he raced under contract with the Chrysler Corporation, setting a National Hot Rod Association superstock/B automatic record of 134.87 mph. In 1980, Larry purchased and co-owned Sutton Sporting Goods with Jerry Mehl and turned it into Outfitters Limited. Larry was a successful businessman and continued that in 1982 when he became co-owner of Cooper- Hughes Olds, Buick, Pontiac, and GMC Truck Inc. with Freddie Hughes. A few short years later in 1985, he bought Riley Buick in Monroe. One year after that in 1986, Larry bought the Freightliner GMC truck franchise and in 1995, he bought the Jeep franchise. Mr. Cooper owned Cooper Buick GMC from 1982 until 2020.
Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by his parents, Cooter and Helen Cooper; sister, Carol Boudreau (her husband, Tony); brother, Billy Cooper (Debbie, his wife); grandson, Kyle Phillips; and special cousin, Mary Jo Harrell (Fred, her husband).
Survivors: his wife, Mrs. Julie Cooper; children, Lori Vance, Bryan Cooper and his wife, Margaret, and Kelly Cooper; stepsons, Jody Cobb, Johnny Cobb and his partner, Diane Boone; daughters-in-love, Samantha Cobb and Kourtney Hill; nephews and nieces, Bill Cooper and wife, Jackie, and Barron Magee, Nina Kenny and husband, Patrick and Janae Cooper; sister, Kathy Magee and husband, Donnie; sister in law, Sue Dennis; grandchildren, Clay Vance and his wife, Erin, Erika Givens and husband, Sunny, Cassy Futch and husband, Ryan, Debbie Krems and husband, Erick, Sharon Potts and husband, Ryan, Mary Young and husband, Cody, Laurie Krumm and husband, Greg, John Cooper, Sean Cooper, Danny Phillips and partner, Morgan Christy, Savannah Phillips, Macy Jalaldin and husband, Alec, Harley Cobb, John Michael Cobb, Adison Holly, and Alayah McKnight; great grandchildren, Jeremiah Vance, Lily Vance, Faith Vance, Anna Vance, Avery Futch, Autumn Futch, Zayden Givens, Charlee Pardue, Finlee Pardue, Nova Cobb, Nolan Cobb, Mattie Jo Phillips, Tobias Krems, Druce Krems, Artemis Krems, Shelby Potts, Colton Young, Logan Krumm, and Addie Krumm. The entire family at Cooper owned dealerships.
The pallbearers will be Johnny Cobb, Jody Cobb, Bill Cooper, Jackson Cooper, Clay Vance, John Cooper, Jeremiah Vance, John Michael Cobb, Sean Cooper, and Danny Phillips.
