Larry Dean Dalton, of Lafayette, passed away surrounded by family after a life well lived and well loved. He was born in Lafayette, Indiana, at Home Hospital to the late Milford and Dorothy Dalton.

Larry went on to marry the love of his life, Vickie (Jacks) Dalton, and together they shared 50 wonderful years of marriage, just recently celebrating their golden anniversary. They built a beautiful life devoted to family, raising two children they were endlessly proud of - Jamie Dalton-Ransbottom (Ben) of Lafayette and Michael Dalton of Crawfordsville.

The light of Larry's life was his 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, whom he loved taking fishing - his favorite pastime. Larry was happiest outdoors with his family, whether on a fishing trip, around a campfire, or camping somewhere across Indiana.

Larry proudly served his country, first joining the U.S. Army, where he served nine years, including two tours in Vietnam - the first after being drafted, and the second by choice. He later retired after 22 years of dedicated service from the Army National Guard. He was deeply proud of his military career and held great respect and gratitude for all veterans who made the same sacrifice.

Larry loved to play cards, bowl, and coach his son's sports teams when the kids were growing up. He also loved to water ski and was known for his love of animals - and his sweet tooth. BBQ ribs, crème horns, and chocolate-covered cherries were among his favorites.

He is survived by his loving wife Vickie, his children Jamie and Michael, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his siblings John Dalton (Joyce) of Frankfort, Milford Dalton (DeAnn) of West Lafayette, Thomas Dalton (Amanda) of Stockwell, and Carol Schriefer-McClean of Lafayette.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Bobbi Dalton, and his stepfather Harold Schriefer.

Larry's sense of humor and big heart will long be remembered. One of the family's favorite stories involved Larry's "can't get his finger wet" joke - a story that kept everyone laughing for years and showed his good-natured spirit.

Larry lived a full and honorable life centered around love, laughter, service, and family - the things that mattered most.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at VFW Post 1154, 2660 Duncan Road, Lafayette, IN 47904.
