Larry Goldberg Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Louis Suburban Chapel - Fair Lawn on Jan. 7, 2026.
Larry Goldberg, 90, of Fair Lawn, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026. Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, Larry grew up alongside his brother, Martin, raised by their parents, Irving and Rose Goldberg. His New York roots stayed with him for life and shaped the person he became, a true New Yorker through and through.

Larry was married to the love of his life, Ruth Despen, for 66 wonderful years and together they built a family that meant everything to him. He was a devoted father to his two daughters, Lori (and her husband Henry) and Debra, and a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren, Becca, Ashley, Morgan, Marc, Rachel, Callie and Olivia. He was also a loving great-grandfather to Archer, Brooks, and Alina, all of whom brought him endless pride and joy.

Larry served in the U.S. Army and upon leaving the military, he earned his master electrician's license in New York and went on to establish his own electrical contracting business, a career he took great pride in. Later in life, you could often find him on the paddleball courts, enjoying games with his Fair Lawn buddies.

An avid sports enthusiast, Larry was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants, and you would rarely see him without a baseball cap on his head. Whether it was his favorite team or, later in life, the colleges of his grandchildren, he wore each cap with pride.

Above all else, Larry loved his family deeply and found his greatest happiness simply being at home, surrounded by the people he loved most.

Larry will be remembered for his loyalty, his humor, his love of New York sports, and the quiet, steady way he showed up for his family every day. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew him.
