Larry Green Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Omps Funeral Home and Cremation Center - Amherst Chapel on Feb. 9, 2026.
Larry Wayne Green, 79, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, surrounded by the love of those who meant the world to him.

Larry was born in Garrett, Maryland, the son of the late William Richard Green and Naomi Elnora McCusker Green.

He was a graduate of Valley High School and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps as an infantryman – Firearms Proof Tech, earning the Rifle Marksman Medal. His service was a point of quiet pride that reflected his strong sense of duty and character.

Larry spent 40 years working at O'Sullivan Film, Inc., retiring as a boiler operator.

Outside of work, he found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. He loved gardening, tending to plants, bushes, fruit trees, and especially his many varieties of homegrown tomatoes.

His kitchen was a place of comfort, care, and love, well known for his homemade chicken noodle soup and spaghetti sauce. Larry was the kind of man who made sure no one ever left hungry, and his home was always open to those who needed a safe place, a warm meal, or simply to be welcomed.

Music was another great love of Larry's life. He especially enjoyed late 1950s and early 1960s rock-and-roll aka rockabilly and took pride in his record collection.
One of his favorite tunes was Dion's classic "The Wanderer" as a playful nod to his youthful, wandering days. He often joked that he "had to do something while he waited for Nel to grow up," reflecting with a smile on their age difference and the enduring, everlasting love that followed.

Larry's greatest love was his 49½-year marriage to Nel, his cherished "sweetie." He adored her with a playful spirit, frequently declaring with a grin and a chuckle, that she "keeps life interesting," words that beautifully reflected the laughter, devotion, and unwavering love that defined their life together.

His wife and daughter Jodi extends their deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to his grandchildren, Shauna, and Andrew, who selflessly took evening and overnight shifts for the past ten months to lovingly care for their Pappy. Their devotion, sacrifice, and love were a true blessing during this time.

We are also profoundly thankful to Mike, Debbie, Howard, Kevin, Annie, and every person who walked beside us offering kindness, prayers, support, encouragement and helped carry us through this journey in ways that will never be forgotten.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Nilda Wheeler Green, whom he married on August 14, 1976.
