Larry E. Hamlin, 67, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away on September 8, 2025.
Born and raised in Kentucky, Larry spent most of his adult life in Illinois, where he worked, raised his family, and built lifelong friendships. In later years, he chose to return to Kentucky to help care for his parents-a true reflection of his loyalty, kindness, and love for family.
He was one of five siblings, a devoted father, and a proud grandfather whose greatest joy in life was his family.
His daughters will always remember him as the best dad a girl could ask for. He was their rock, their safe place, their source of endless encouragement and unconditional love. But perhaps the role that brought him the greatest joy was being "Grandpa/Papa." His six grandchildren were the light of his life, and anyone who knew him knew just how much he adored them. He doted on them constantly, showered them with love, spoiled them in every way he could, and always found ways to make them laugh. To his grandkids, he wasn't just a grandfather-he was their hero, their best friend, and the center of their world. He created a bond that will be cherished forever.
Larry had a gift for making people smile. A jokester at heart, he loved to laugh and loved even more to share laughter with others. But beneath his humor was a deep and steady kindness. He was generous with his time, his talents, and his heart.
He lived his faith openly and faithfully. His love for God guided his life, and he found daily strength and peace in reading his Bible. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion that his family will carry forward.
He was a true jack of all trades-working as a truck driver, a mechanic, and an all-around fixer. His greatest passion was building and repairing cars and bikes, and he was always quick to lend a hand to friends in need. Outside the garage, he had a well-known sweet tooth and never turned down a cupcake, a scoop of ice cream, or any treat that brought him a little extra joy.
Larry is survived by his daughters, Nicole (Eric) Inostroza of
New Lenox, IL and Yvette (Matthew) Pistorio of Lake Bluff, IL; and his beloved grandchildren, Liyah Owens, E.J. Inostroza, Sophia Pistorio, Henry Pistorio, James Pistorio, and Gabriella Pistorio.
He is also survived by his siblings, Brad (Diane) Hamlin, Debbie (Greg) Kurinec, Ken Hamlin, and Mike Hamlin, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Margaret (Blanton) and Brady Hamlin.
Those who were blessed to know him will never forget his humor, his warmth, his strong faith, and the immeasurable love he poured into his family. His life was a gift, and though he will be deeply missed, his love and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday September 16, 2025, at Hickey Memorial Chapel, 2100 Calistoga Drive,
New Lenox, IL 60451. Visitation will take place from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by a service at 7:00 p.m. Friends and family are invited to gather, share stories, and honor the incredible man that Larry was.
