Larry Dennis Heem

Larry Dennis Heem, 82, of International Falls, Minnesota, passed away peacefully with his daughters by his side on Monday, November 24, 2025, at Essentia Health- St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota.
Larry was born on April 24, 1943, in Littlefork, Minnesota, to Oscar and Alvina Heem. He grew up on the family farm alongside his parents and many siblings. Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army and fought in the Vietnam War. After returning home, he headed to Alaska and was a mechanic for a couple years. He came home and began a long career with the railroad in International Falls, where he worked for many years before retiring.
Larry loved spending time in the woods at his children's shacks. He enjoyed camping, four-wheeling, bingo, cribbage, and being surrounded by family. In his younger years, he loved to dance and took any chance to be on the dance floor. As he grew older, he preferred listening to what he called "old, old school country music," and he made sure everyone knew that was real country. Larry cherished sharing stories about growing up on the farm with his siblings. He was also a talented handyman and enjoyed building furniture and tackling remodeling projects around his home. He loved visiting his family on the Iron Range whenever he could. Above all, Larry was a kind and honest man who was always willing to help others in any way he could.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Alvina Heem; daughter Becky Fisher, granddaughter Alicia Larsen his siblings, twin sister Linda, Allie, Helen, and Arlene, Donnie, Richard, and Willie
He is survived by his children: Jennifer (Jed) Rohlf; Janelle (Ryan) Heem; and Jeff (Sue) Bruce. He is also survived by his brother Kenny Heem; his sisters Normie McDowell and Kay Gaetzke; seven grandchildren-Allison, Paige, Rylie, Finn, Barclay, Brianna, and Ryan-three great-grandchildren-Greyson, Levi, and Soren- and many nieces and nephews. Extra special relationship with brother-in-law, Leonard McDowell and nephew, Terry Patterson.
A memorial service will be held at Littlefork Lutheran Church on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.
Interment will take place at Dentaybow Cemetery in Littlefork.
