Larry C. Herink, 80, of Lincoln, IA passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at his residence. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the Salem Church of Lincoln. Larry was born April 21, 1945, to Charles and Marie (Simon) Herink in Toledo, IA. He attended most of his school years in Toledo and graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1963. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. and served in Vietnam from 1963 to 1966. When he returned to the US, he attended MCC where he played football and received his degree. Larry married Vickie Sienknecht on September 26, 1970, at the Salem Church of Lincoln. Larry worked for Vagrt Construction before becoming a co-owner of Lincoln Equipment. At Lincoln Equipment he worked with his father-in-law and brother-in-law, wearing many hats including bookkeeper, parts manager, sales, and mechanic on top of ownership. Once the business closed, he worked for Baumeier Construction. In 1986, Larry went on to work for Tama County running the maintainer in the Lincoln area for the next 25 years, retiring in 2011.
Larry enjoyed many outdoor activities, including turkey and deer hunting with his brother, bird-watching and walking Tama County fields for arrowheads. He took his family on fishing trips to Canada and Minnesota over the years. Later, he would take his grandsons fishing for "Tama County Trout" in the local creeks. Larry was a fireman for over 50 years, being one of the last active on the Lincoln Fire Department before it merged with Gladbrook. He was also very active in the Lincoln AMVETS for over 50 years.
Larry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Vickie of Lincoln, his daughter, Heidi (Jed) Bergen of Sutton, NE, his grandsons, Wyatt (Naudia) Bergen of Omaha, NE and Jesse Bergen of Wayne, NE, his siblings, Rob (Kathy) Herink of Gladbrook, Jan Grossnickle of Liberty, NC, and Donna (Tom) Kehoe of St. Petersburg, FL, several nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Teddy. He was preceded in death by his son, Lance, and his sister, Debbie Edwards.

To the Larry Herink family,
Many years ago I was friends with Larry while attending Marshalltown Community College. We played football together. Larry was a great individual and I enjoyed his friendship both on the field and off. I am truly sorry for you loss and hope that the Good Lord will help you through this time of sorrow.
