Larry Franklin Lacy, 77, of Wauneta, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Great Plains Health in North Platte.
Larry was born on August 22, 1947, in Norfolk, Nebraska, to Franklin Lacy and Dorothy (Jensen) Lacy. He attended Ogallala High School.
On July 30, 1967, Larry married Eilene Steinke in Ogallala, just before he entered service in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the USS Chilton in the Mediterranean throughout his military service.
After returning home from the Navy, Larry pursued a life in agriculture. He farmed in the Hamlet area for many years, raising cattle and growing wheat and corn for the Williams family. A self-taught farmer, he got his start working with the Hahlweg family, later ranching near Brule for the Welches. He took great pride in cultivating the land he loved until his health would no longer allow.
Larry was a jokester with an edgy sense of humor and a quick smile. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker football fan and enjoyed the simple pleasures of rural Nebraska life, especially camping and fishing. He and Eilene shared many adventures together, often traveling in their RV, including a recent trip to Estes Park. Larry also adored his dogs - Petey, DJ, and Pepper - who were his constant companions.
Despite facing declining health for the last 24 years, he remained good-humored and determined, never losing his positive outlook or his knack for making others smile. Above all, Larry loved his family deeply. He treasured his role as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and he found joy in every moment spent with his loved ones.
Larry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eilene Lacy of Wauneta; two daughters, Brenda (Timothy) Kasun of Omaha and Amber Lacy of Denver, CO; three grandchildren, Kylie (Ryan) Farris, Skylar Peterson, and Trevor Peterson; three great-grandchildren, Hudson, Rowan, and Jordan Farris; his brother, Gary Lacy of Washington; a sister-in-law, Linda (Gary) Newth of Venango; along with many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin "Frank" and Dorothy Lacy; his sister-in-law, Leona (Bill) Loveless; and a foster sister, Julie (Del) Stueven.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Venango, with Pastor Kurt Hatteberg officiating. Interment will follow in the Venango Cemetery with military honors.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 15, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant.
