Larry McCoy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Colvin Funeral Home and Crematory - Fayetteville on Dec. 8, 2025.
Larry Andrew McCoy transitioned to his eternal home on December 3, 2025. He was 73 years old at the time of his passing. He resided in Durham, NC, but Fayetteville, NC was always his home that he so deeply loved.

Larry was born on March 22, 1952, to the late Neil and Novella McCoy. He was the knee baby out of the 11 siblings. He was born in Fayetteville, NC, where he lived most of his life. He was a very good friend to so many, and he never met a stranger wherever he went. He will be sincerely missed by all who know him. Larry loved eating a good home cooked meal, listening to music, spending time with loved ones, and he loved his sports. Football was his favorite sport. Larry was a die-hard Carolina Panthers fan. He also really enjoyed attending his grandson's sporting events, from football, basketball, and baseball, and he made sure he never missed a game.

Larry attended the Cumberland Country School System. He is a graduate of E.E. Smith High School, Class of 1971. Where he played football and in 2024 was inducted into the E.E. Smith Alumni Sports Hall of Fame for being part of the 1968 Co-Championship Football team.

Larry was a hard worker and worked at various places in Fayetteville. He worked at Healy wholesale and Texfi Industry for most of his career and retired from Cumberland County Department of Social Services (DSS) as a Custodian Supervisor. He was also employed at the Greyhound Bus Lines where he loved sharing his smile and meeting people as they traveled.

Larry loved the lord and dedicated his life to Christ. He was a member of St. Paul Full Gospel Church and later moved his membership to The Advance Church where he attended when he visited Fayetteville. While in Durham he attended World Overcomers Christian Church faithfully. Everyone who knew Larry and saw him saw his sweet smile; he loved to dance and would help in any way he could. Now, when we hear a song, we will always remember him snapping his fingers and moving to the beat in his heart and that sweet, sweet smile.

Larry leaves to cherish his precious loving memories, his daughter, Paula Hargrove, his son-n-law, Kenneth Hargrove, grandson, Ethan Hargrove, all of Durham, NC who he lived with until his passing. Three siblings: Patricia Moore (Don) of Michigan, Linda McCoy of Fayetteville, NC, and Roger McCoy (Linda) of Michigan; A very Special Friend: Benita Smith of Fayetteville, NC. A host of nieces and nephews; a special thank you to his nieces Sabrina and Ameka, and many other relatives, friends, and the Perry and Hargrove Family who loved him dearly.

Larry is predeceased by his parents; Neil and Novella McCoy; and 8 siblings.

It was truly a pleasure meeting and caring for you ( Kool-Mo-D ) . The moment you stepped into the center I gave you that name and believe me you understood the assignment. Everyone loved you from the staff to your peers and I know you loved us. We will truly miss that tenacious smile, your charismatic dance moves oh and I can´t for that ( red cup) . Thank you for blessing us with such a beautiful soul.
