Larry John McDaniel, 74, of Murphy, Idaho, passed away on August 30, 2025, at Saint Alphonsus Hospital in Nampa following an illness.
Larry was born February 27, 1951, in Caldwell, Idaho, to John Luna McDaniel and Loretta Laverne Dane. He was their first child. Larry grew up in Parma and later moved with his family to Murphy in 1965. He attended Parma Grade School and graduated from Melba High School.
As a young man, Larry developed a love for riding dirt bikes and fishing-pastimes that remained lifelong passions. He also proudly served as a member of the National Guard. For much of his working life, Larry was a truck foreman and driver, a role that suited his hard-working and dependable nature.
On June 28, 1985, Larry married his high school friend, JoAnn Sue McDaniel, in his parents' yard. After reconnecting in 1982, they blended their families together, creating a busy and lively home. Family vacations often centered around camping and fishing trips, which became cherished traditions.
Larry loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing, ATV riding, and exploring new places. He took joy in showing others the trails and spots he discovered. A kindhearted and caring man, Larry was also a history enthusiast who loved sharing his knowledge and discoveries with friends and family.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Loretta, and his son, Travis. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn; brother Gary (Dixie); sister Karlene; children Timothy (Kayla), April, and Connie (Chris); eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Larry's life will be held at the Owyhee County Museum located at 17085 Basey St., Murphy, ID 83650 on October 4th from 1 to 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Owyhee County Museum in his memory.
