Larry Moennig Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Buchanan Funeral Home - Monett on Mar. 9, 2025.
Larry Dean Moennig
Larry Moennig, age 72, passed into the arms of Jesus on Friday, March 7, 2025. Born January 30, 1953, he was the son of Marvin and Mabel (Spree) Moennig, who preceded him in death. Larry was a devoted and lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt, where he was baptized and confirmed. He attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Pierce City High School.
On April 25, 1975 he married his high school sweetheart, JoNelle Staponski. Larry is survived by his wife of 49 years; son Christopher Moennig and his wife Amanda; and daughter Amber (Moennig) Carr and her husband Will. Larry adored his three grandsons Noah Dean, Seth, and Abel. Larry is also survived by his sister Nancy (Moennig) Wecker, and a host of family and friends, near and far.
Larry's true passions were his faith, family, farming, and Cardinals baseball. He loved spending time with his family at the farm, where they share many cherished memories. He was proud to pass on the farming legacy to his grandsons, which began with teaching Noah how to feed the cows at 6 months old.
Larry earned his Ag Business degree from Southwest Missouri State University in 1975. He began his 32 year banking career as a loan officer at the Pierce City branch of First State Bank of Purdy. Larry served as President of FSB from 2011 until his retirement in 2019. He enjoyed serving his church in a variety of roles, including Elder and Church Treasurer. Larry was honored to be elected as an Ozark Electric Board member for several terms. He truly enjoyed his career and loved helping those in the local community.
The family will receive friends at Buchanan Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12. The service of Christian burial, officiated by Rev Jacob Sletten, will be at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 13. A graveside service will follow. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church and School. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home.
