Larry L. Olson

Larry L. Olson passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Tuesday November 18, 2025, at the age of 77 at his home in Springfield, Mo.

He was born September 1, 1948, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Gerald and Phyllis (Lown) Olson. He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1966.

Larry started his career in the Waterloo Fire Department on 8/31/1970 and retired as Battalion Chief in 2003. Larry loved being a firefighter and having lifelong relationships with his fellow workers.

Hunting and fishing were his greatest pleasure throughout his life and developed a passion for fly fishing.

He worked on his day off as a carpenter and then went on to build his dream home in Missouri. He continually evolved his woodworking skills and became a master carpenter and made many treasured furniture pieces for his home. He built many projects and was especially proud of the Firefighters Memorial in Waterloo.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lori; his son Erik and Janelle of Missouri and daughter Carey and Victor Trevino of Corpus Christi, Texas;

Seven cherished grandchildren Ellen, Ethan, Tatiana, Dakota, Katelynn, Victor, and Keera. and one great grandson Archer;

Four sisters Linda (Richard) Pilipchuk, Loretta (James) Krueger, Jane Fredberg, Kathy (David) Slaikeu and one brother James Olson.

He is preceded in death by his daughters Jennifer and Jessica; parents Gerald and Phyllis Olson.

Services will be at a later date. Donations may be made to the Missouri Tie Flying Association.
